Pesach Rocks

pesach.jpgPassover started last night (Saturday) at sundown. We went to the inlaws to have Seder. That's Allie, me, Karen, my MIL, my FIL, their long-time friend, Lew, Lew's daughter and son. We sang songs and recited the Passover story. In acccordance with tradition, I told everyone about my favorite part of the story. Of course we had wine and we ate matza and we ate haroset*. We ate gefilte fish and horseradish. We had hard-boiled eggs and we had chicken soup with matzoh balls. At this point it is traditional for someone to say, "Unh, I could stop right now. We don't need the main course." Karen's mom took that part and then we proceeded to have salad, roasted potatoes, leg of lamb with mint jelly and cooked carrots. We also had some more matzah, with butter and salt and some more haroset. Whew, I was stuffed. Everyone was. So we had desert: sponge cake with strawberries and Cool Whip, Passover cookies and dark chocolate covered matza. Then we finished the story, drank some more wine, welcomed Elijah in (he couldn't stay long, he has to visit all the Jewish homes) and sang some more songs. Then it was time to go home.
This morning we got up and had matzah brei, topped with some maple syrup that Sue brought us from Canada.
Allie loves bread and pasta and really has a hard time during Passover. She is the only one so far who really has suffered as the slaves in Egypt.

*Karen makes great haroset - her recipe is similar to the one linked but also includes nutmeg and ginger.
** rinsing, soaking or steaming the matza in water is not necessary. Just break up the matzah in the eggs and let it soak awhile.
