The Concert

BFD and I had a great time at the Bridge School Concert. Here is one of the reviews though it reviews the Saturday performance more than the Sunday (our day) performance. We arrived at the amphitheater about 1:15 and proceeded to look for a parking spot. We followed a line of cars and parked behind one of them. Then we noticed the No Parking sign. We asked the people in front of us if they were pretty sure it would be safe to park anyway - there were lots and lots of cars there. The driver said he thought the worst that would happen would be we'd get a ticket because he didn't think they could tow the whole line of cars. So BFD and I decided we'd rather just pay for parking and be confident our car would not get a ticket. By then paid parking was full but the attendant directed us to FREE parking behind the event. Cool! We gathered up our picnic supplies, blankets, and tarp and trekked to the event. We found a sunny, sunny spot on the lawn and settled in for the day. And what a great day it was. The music flowed pretty much as described in the review but we didn't get Linda Ronstadt or John Mellencamp and we did get Dave Mathews. And Dave was good. He and Tim Reynolds can certainly play a mean guitar. I agree that Jerry Lee Lewis was great or, as BFD said, he's old but he can still play a piano - he even played with used his butt to play the keyboard. The crowd roared. Others were also excellent. I was impressed with Good Charlotte or at least the two brothers who performed w/o the rest of the band. I wasn't all that impressed with Bright Eyes. Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones and Los Lobos came through just fine. And of course, CSN&Y. Sing along music.

It was a wonderful day. So wonderful even the drunk Harley guy and smoker friends next to us couldn't ruin it. Though we did head for higher ground after DHG starting high fiving BFD every five minutes. Next year is the 20th anniversary benefit so pay attention this time next year and get your tickets.
