Bullies

Yesterday Israel killed the Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin

precipitating a flood of world condemnation. Normally I am on the non-violent side of arguments but I have to say the Hamas reaction could be the dictionary definition of irrational. The Hamas claims they had no "warning" of the attack. Are they insinutating that they have given innocent victims warning about the rash of suicide bombings they've claimed responsibility for in Israel? Please! According to this article

"Since Yassin founded Hamas in 1987, the group has killed hundreds of Israelis in scores of attacks. Hamas, which is known formally as the Islamic Resistance Movement, wants to destroy Israel and replace it with an Islamic state. "

Did they really think that after years of attacks Israel wouldn't respond?
I'm not sure Isreal's response was the wisest choice or that it won't fuel a new period of increased violence in the Middle East but I certainly can't give an organization like Hamas any sympathy when they whine about being attacked.
For them to now turn to the world for sympathy is outrageous and for European countries to condemn Israel without pointing out that the Hamas has been violating international law for years is just disgusting.

Someone once commented that an abusive person in my life was just like a bully who continued to poke someone with a shark* stick, pursuing the victim even as he tried to avoid conflict. When the victim finally has enough, realizes nothing else will work and hauls off and slugs the bully, the bully runs to the authorities and complains "he hit me!" The Hamas is just like that whining bully and the rest of the world ought to explain the term retribution to them.

* should be sharp as pointed out by jen - I could have corrected it but then her comment wouldn't make sense.

I can't side with any group that feels murder and assasination are appropriate courses of action, be they retributionary or no.

Especially when "shark sticks" are involved. That sounds dangerous.

But I'll leave out the shark stick!

[Sigh]...will a resolution ever come? I think both parties have poor leaders who "solve" things only with violence. The question is, if I were over there and in charge of resolving this age-long conflict, could *I* figure out how to solve things without violence? I honestly don't know.

You could if you had a Shark Stick.
