The UNR Wolfpack upset Gonzaga on Saturday
and proceeds to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time ever! Now I'm kind of happy they call themselves Nevada. Scott mentioned that when UNLV used to go to the NCAA tournament people would hear about Las Vegas but with Nevada there no one is talking about Reno. I smugly told him that if UNR would use their real name, people would be talking about Reno. Too Bad!
I'll be rooting for the Wolfpack!
Absolutely unrelated to the Wolfpack, here is an avatar I made.
I found the generator thanks to Kat thanks to Ian. Have fun.
I am just happy that Stanford lost! Stupid UK and Miss St have ruined my chances in my pools so I will never root for them again. If you can't beat UAB then you should not be allowed to play in the tournament at all--some number 1 seed. HMPH!

Posted by: kat at March 22, 2004 10:28 AMYeah why doesn't my comment page process those codes! Very cute avatar. I hope no one thinks mine looks like me.
Posted by: susan at March 22, 2004 10:30 AMLast week a little voice told me, "Wolfpack in the Sweet 16" and, foolishly, I thought it meant NC State.
My pool is not completely trashed. If Nevada can eliminate Ga. Techa nd UAB can eliminate Kansas, I think I still have an outside shot.
Whether or not you were rooting for UK, that UAB pass from Donelle to Ronelle was awesome!
susan's avatar looks like her...before COFFEE.
Posted by: kat at March 22, 2004 01:10 PMInteresting article about favorites losing. In it Phil Taylor says "Gonzaga, once the cuddly underdog, found out how difficult it can be to suddenly be expected to win when a hungry Wolf Pack from Nevada came in and ended their season in shocking fashion. Being a high seed can be nerve-wracking and eventually heart-wrenching. Maybe we should think about that a little more when we're rooting for all those adorable little surprise teams. The teams they beat are more than just X'ed out names in your tournament pool. They're kids who sometimes shed real tears. They deserve a little sympathy, too."
Posted by: susan at March 22, 2004 03:25 PMThey say that there is a curse for the NCAA teams that get massive media attention and end up on the covers of magazines and newspapers. The curse follows thru by getting Stanford and the Zags, both teams got major press right before their games.
