CIT 130B - COURSE SYLLABUS:

COURSE Description:

This course is both a second course in computer programming and an introductory course in object-oriented programming using Java programming language. It is designed as a continuation of IS 115 - Introduction to Programming. Any student who has experience in programming in any computer programming language or has taken IS 115 is eligible to enroll in this course. Topics to be covered include the Object Oriented concepts, Java language's control structures, applets, Graphics, inheritances, Swing components, and File I/O. Numerous programs will be written to exercise the material covered. Prerequisites: IS 115 and/or ability to program in a high level language.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

On completion of this course, students will understand advanced computer application and applet programming techniques using Java programming language. Topics covered would include the following:

Introduction to Programming Languages
Introduction to Class and Object
Fundamental Data Types
Decisions (If and Switch Statements)
Iteration (For and While Loops)
Array Lists and Arrays
Applets and Graphics
Event Handling
Graphical User Interfaces

COURSE ACTIVITIES:

All students will be required to do the following: course lab assignments, reading assignments, project assignments, and Two class examinations (midterm and final).

GRADING:

Grades will be based on the following:

Midterm exam (30%)

Final exam (30%)

Labs, and Project assignments (30%), and

Exercise assignments (10%).
