PHI 404

19th Century Philosophy

Final Exam

(Hand in to my office by 5pm, Thursday, May 13, 2004)

Write roughly two pages apiece on questions 1 and 2, and then three to four pages on question 3. As always, be sure to proof-read your work. (I dont want to see ANY apostrophe errors!!)

1. As clearly as you can, outline Hegel's objection(s) to Kantian epistemology, and then explain how this sets the stage for Hegel's own Phenomenology. Be sure to include at least a few paragraph citations.

2. Pick some section of the main part of the Phenomenology of Spirit (not the introduction) and explain the lesson that consciousness is supposed to have learned in that section. Briefly sketch how consciousness is supposed to have arrived at that conclusion. Once again, please include at least a few paragraph citations.

3. Pick any two texts that we have studies so far this semester and compare and contrast them on any particular topic or aspect of your choosing.
