Our second mid-term will be all multiple choice (45-55 questions). It would behoove you to be familiar with the following topics.

1. Definitions:

-Proper form (Genus and Differentia)

-Rules for Evaluating Definitions

-Counterexamples (Too Broad, Too Narrow)

2. Conditionals (for practice, look at my "notes on conditionals")

-Identifying Antecedents and Consequents

-Non-standard forms ("only if", "unless")

-Necessary and Sufficient Conditions

3. Disjunctive Syllogisms

-Valid and Invalid forms (D.D, A.D)

-Inclusive/Exclusive "or"

-Special forms ("not both")

4. Hypothetical Syllogisms

-Valid Forms (A.A., D.C., Valid HS)

-Invalid Forms (A.C., D.A., Invalid HS)

5. Categorical Propositions (for practice, look at practice quiz 11.1 and the "Art Bell" exercises)

-Universal and Particular Statements

-Translation into Conditional Statements

-Non-standard Forms ("only", "none but", "not all")

-The Law of Contraposition

6. Categorical Syllogisms (for practice, look at practice quizzes for chapter 9)

-Determining validity and invalidity ("The method")

-Enthymemes (implicit premises or conclusions)
